There's a $60 Billion bounty on Vash the Stampede, otherwise known as the Humanoid Typhoon. He has been credited with the utter destruction of several cities. His name is renowned and feared by many. Few try to impersonate him for that infamy but rarely do they succeed for the real Vash the Stampede shows up. Set in a outlandish western-style future, Trigun is a mixed-bag anime. On the surface, Vash the Stampede looks very imposing in his long red trenchcoat and magnificient longbarrelled sidearm. Dig a little bit down, Vash is a bumbling, donut-stuff, skirt-chasing jerk. The two insurance ladies, Meryl Strife and Milly Thompson of the Bernadelli Society sent to keep tabs on him, can barely think that the same man could be called the Humanoid Typhoon. But dig a little further, and Vash holds many secrets and is truly a man to be feared. His abilities are unknown and his past a mystery. |

The tone of Trigun easily shifts from some very awesome action to some very silly comedy. Underneath it all is the story of Vash's past and his secrets. Each episode has a story of its own as Vash travels from town-to-town and gets caught up in one mess or another. Like any hero, it's up to him to save the day, and a piece of the puzzle of himself or his past is slowly revealed to the audience. Later, the anime gets a little darker as it begins to deal with some harder issues. We learn that Vash's brashness is just a facade to hide his angst and dark inner-demons.
